Mass Shooting: 1 Dead, 7 Wounded In Southwest Philadelphia, Police Say

Eight people were struck by gunfire leaving one of them dead in Southwest Philadelphia late on Thursday, July 4, police said.

The group had been gathered on the 1900 block of S. Salford Street when a man with dreadlocks fired multiple shots from the passenger side of a passing SUV around 11:30 p.m., police said.

A 19-year-old man was shot in the face and taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 11:43 p.m., police said.

The second victim, a 23-year-old man, was shot once in the right leg and is in stable condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. The third victim, an 18-year-old man, was shot once in the left leg and was also in stable condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. 

The fourth victim, a 21-year-old man, was shot once in the left shoulder and is in stable condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. The fifth victim, a 17-year-old boy, suffered a graze wound to the head and is in stable condition at Presbyterian Hospital. 

The sixth victim, a 16-year-old boy, was shot once in the left thigh and is in stable condition at CHOP. The seventh victim, a 15-year-old girl, was shot once in the left foot and is in stable condition at CHOP. The eighth victim, a 14-year-old boy, was shot once in the right thigh, transported to HUP Cedar Hospital, and then to CHOP, where he is in stable condition. 

The scene was held, no arrests have been made, and no weapons have been recovered.
